Robbens Island & futbol!

Robbens Island is Just off the coast of Cape Town. Once a British-Dutch military prison; then became a leprosy banishment camp, to a mental institution to the holding of Nelson Mandela for 18 of his 27 year imprisonment.
Tours are given by former prisoners of the island. Roughly 120 people occupy and live on the island but their only means to get off for food or anything is by the the same ferry the tourists use.

We went to a local soccer game, the Cape Town Ajax who are currently last in their division but pulled off a win nonetheless. The crowd though they were few in numbers were a loud and rambunctious bunch. The stadium was built for the 2010 World Cup that has seating for over 70,000 people.

Castle of Good Hope (Cape Town, South Africa)

The Dutch castle Is the oldest colonial structures in South Africa. lt dates back to 1666 when they first started construction, but then was never used in combat. They designed it to withstand the strong cape/sea winds. It once was built only yards away from the ocean until Dutch engineers found a way to push back the waters more than a couple miles.

World of Birds & Monkeys (Hout Bay, South Africa)

We traveled by mini bus about 25 min from Cape Town which is probably the cheapest way to travel around the city. It's about $.80 each way but they stop and pick up anyone who's heading in the same direction looking for a ride which in some cases can be timely but still definitely worth it.

Once we arrived at the animal sanctuary we saw all types of birds and monkeys and a few other types of animals. For the most part we were able to walk directly in the cage with the birds while they flew around us. We had one owl who gave us some problems tying to peck us while we ventured through his cage.

We Were able to pet of few of them as the signs read, "Enter at your own risk" but playing with the monkeys was probably the best part.

Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Town has magnificent scenery and great hikes. It's been a blast here! We've met so many people and had so many experiences. I wish i had more pictures of them. Would love to come back some day. The last day here we rented a car and drove to The Cape of Good Hope which is the most southern tip of Africa.
