Johannesburg, South Africa

Finally made it to South Africa after 26 hours of flights in four different airports. The days are warm and sunny but nights are cool and a bit breezy during this time of year in Johannesburg. I quickly found out they call stop lights, "robots" and BBQ's, "braais". Apparently they get offended if you use the term BBQ. We stayed near the airport the first two nights at a inexpensive hostel where the owner manufactured her own pot in plain sight. We even had a police officer stop by in short shorts (Reno 911) for a drink and pretty sure a smoke.
The next day we rented a car and spent a good 6 hours driving to Kruger National Park for a self drive safari. This was absolutely amazing. The pictures do not add justice for the experience. Animals such as lions, monkeys, and even elephantshui would approach your car especially if you had a piece of food. It was incredible to see these wild animals in their setting. We swam and ate lunch at one of the outposts where we had braai called wors and pap which consisted of sausage, ground up white rice and a mango pepper flavored sauce (mostly diced vegies). It was delicious. It's 3am and we are now on our way back to the city to return the car and catch our flight down to Cape Town. A lot of people jay walk on the highways, so we have to avoid them. We just got waved down by the police for a quick vehicle search.. and we're clean.

Leopard eating meal while hyena eats the scraps. Lions mating. Agitate mother elephant blocking from crossing the road, Do not feed the animals. Capturing a moment in time. Squatters park. Government granted land. At least until the needed the land to build.

Our luxurious hostels
We got lost on our way to the park and got directions from some natural healers
Almost accidentally went to Mozambique
Lovely drapery
Bungee jumping between the two smoke stacks
Nelson Mandela's former home and thumb
South Africa's spiderman
Identical to District 9. These are squatter parks. Government "loaned" property. Houses mostly made from scrap metal
