Don Khon (four thousand islands), Laos

We stayed on one of the islands within the Mekong River. The rice here is cooked with a curry flavor. Very delicious. We woke up early rented bikes to do some exploring. We heard there were waterfalls nearby but these were nothing like what we expected. There were waterways and falls all over. We skeptical at first when we had to pay $2.50 to get in, but once we arrived it was well worth it. Anytime there is water around on a hot day you know we're jumping in. It was cool and refreshing. We spent the test of the day biking other sections of the island and found another place to swim. A bit rocky so we couldn't find and places to cliff jump. I love the walkways to get to certain areas. They look so different and magical. The locals are friendly, but I don't doubt they have their moments. At the ATM there was an older man not wearing a uniform holding an semi-automatic gun. Some of the language is the same as Thai like hello and water buffalo. We found that out when a herd of them were chased off by a younger Lao girl working at the falls. The French founded this an many other regions around. There are still some standing buildings and even an old bridge that once was used to transport logs by railway up north. Forgot to mention their roosters sound like a mix of a dog howl and a frog croak.
