Cows, goats and water buffalo roam and rule these roadways. Some as wide as the vehicle you're traveling in. Honking at them does nothing yet the drivers are quite persistent in doing so. It's hard to imagine there was royalty living here 30 years ago with how quiet this city is. We actually walked around a few of the now abandoned French villas. There is still a strong influence here especially with architecture on the houses. Founded by the French but dates back to the Angkor period where there are still remains of a few temples against a mountainside. As you climb the steep rock steps and reach the top you have a great view of all the temples and the pools that sit just in front. One rock had an impression of a crocodile in it while another had an elephant on the outside. We washed our hands in the holy waters where your sins are pronounced clean. We ended our stay at a French owned spa worth local prices. They served us blue butterfly pea drink while we watched the the river. Then came th massages. The most relaxing one I've ever had.
